Other key attendees included Mr. Dirk Vansina, Deputy Mayor of Leuven Municipality, Ms. Els Van Hoof, Member of the Belgian Federal Parliament and President of the Commission of Foreign Affairs among others. The focus of this year’s assembly centered on the continued global efforts to promote the timeless messages of Buddha of peace , particularly those aligned with sustainable development and humanitarian aid.

Promoting Peace and Interfaith Dialogue
One of the central themes of the discussions was the promotion of Lumbini (Nepal), the birthplace of Lord Buddha, as a global center for pilgrimage and peace. LKGCB emphasized the importance of strengthening Lumbini’s role as a hub for interfaith dialogue and global peace initiatives. Dr. Rajendra Bari, President of LKGCB, highlighted the significance of Lumbini not only as a sacred site but as a powerful symbol of peace in today’s world. “We are grateful to all who participated in our 8th General Assembly,” Dr. Bari remarked. “This event has provided a vital platform for exchanging ideas and strengthening our collective efforts to promote peace, understanding, and sustainable development.”

Supporting Sustainable Development
Another important discussion point was the promotion of sustainable development in the Lumbini region of Nepal. Mr Basu Gauraum, president of Lumbini World Peace Forum shared our collaborative work on 1 million tree plantation in Nepal. Assembly members shared insights into ongoing and future initiatives aimed at supporting community-based development projects, environmental conservation, and the preservation of Lumbini’s cultural heritage. The assembly underscored the importance of aligning these projects with the broader goals of sustainable development to create long-term benefits for local communities, particularly through educational and healthcare initiatives, as well as eco-friendly practices.
Humanitarian Assistance: A Renewed Commitment
LKGCB also reaffirmed its commitment to providing humanitarian aid, focusing on both Nepal and the broader region. In addition to supporting sustainable development, the organization’s humanitarian efforts aim to alleviate poverty, provide disaster relief, and promote social welfare for vulnerable communities.
A Unified Effort for Peace
In addition to the speeches and discussions, the assembly served as an opportunity to reinforce the ongoing collaboration between Nepalese communities in Europe and those in Nepal. Representatives from our partner organizations such as Active Intercultural Federation +, Leuven Peace Movement, Lumbini World Peace Forum as well as other organizations such as the NRNA Belgium, International Kabhrepalanchowk Welfare Committee, Kabhrepalanchowk Aid Committee among others were present to show their support for LKGCB’s mission.
A key portion of the assembly took place behind closed doors, where LKGCB members discussed the organization’s strategic direction and future plans. Updates on financial matters were also presented, ensuring transparency and accountability in the use of resources for their various peace-promoting initiatives.

Looking Ahead
With the success of the 8th General Assembly, LKGCB is poised to continue its work in promoting the teachings of Buddha as a pathway to peace and sustainable development. Through its initiatives, LKGCB plays a vital role in raising global awareness about the importance of Lumbini and the values it embodies. As Dr. Bari concluded, “The efforts of LKGCB are not just about a moment in time; they are part of a larger, ongoing commitment to foster a more peaceful and just world for future generations.”
